‘Hopefully, the New Governing Board Will Be Less White.’ Student Prez and VP Resign to Make Room for BIPOC

The vice president of UConn’s Undergraduate Student Government (USG) resigned last week, and pressured the president to follow suit. They gave the reason that it was their duty to make room for BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of color) leadership. In response, a racial justice activist said, “Hopefully, the new Governing Board will be less white.”

The president and vice president were elected in March to represent the student body, defeating a slate of BIPOC candidates. Now, however, despite the trust placed in them by the voters, they feel they cannot represent the student body. Activists claim a hostile environment for BIPOC on the Undergraduate Student Government, despite a woman of color serving as vice president as recently as last year.

The College Fix reported that the vice president of the Undergraduate Student Government, Alex Ose, made the following statement:

I feel that it is my duty to step down from my position to make space for BIPOC (black, indigineous and people of color) voices to truly rise and be heard. It is my responsibility to make space, not to create an echo.

I am asking all members of USG to truly consider their intent in holding their positions, and to urge everyone to truly think if they are making space for the voices that need to be heard right now. I call upon the senators and executive board to consider also stepping down to make space for BIPOC voices.

Two days later, Undergraduate Student Government President Joshua Crow also resigned. The UConn student newspaper, The Daily Campus, reported:

“It is important in this time to ensure that marginalized groups have the platforms they need,” Crow said in an email. “It is my hope that my stepping aside facilitates this.”

Until elections in the fall, Crow said that Speaker Will Schad will assume the role of president.

The resignations came as a result of a first town hall meeting held July 8 over a survey about on-campus race issues the Undergraduate Student Government promoted on its Instagram account. After the resignations, another town hall meeting took place to address what activists called “oppressive and discriminatory experience[s] within USG.”

UCONN Welcomes Anita Hill, Offers Counseling for ‘Even the Thought’ of Ben Shapiro

The Daily Campus reported on the town hall meetings:

Many attendees of the first town hall said the recently elected governing body, a majority of which are White [sic] students, cannot represent the student population. Iyanna Crockett, a seventh-semester political science major, asked why the majority of the organization’s executive branch is White [sic] when that was something Crow and Ose had control over. Crockett is a USG committee member and former deputy chairperson of the External Affairs Committee.

Crockett said in an email interview after the initial town hall that even though she wished the conversation surrounding an unwelcoming environment for BIPOC had happened earlier, she was glad that it had happened at all.

“I really think the first town hall started a conversation that’s needed to happen for a long time,” Crockett said. “I think this conversation, along with Alex’s resignation to make space for BIPOC students, is going to have a lasting impact. I think things are going to change next year. It’s gonna be a long process, but I have hope.”

“There was a lot of pressure for him too and part of being a student leader is listening to what the students want,” Crockett said. “His resignation also means a new Governing Board. Hopefully, the new Governing Board will be less white.” [emphasis added]

Instead of addressing the blatant racism behind this statement, the attendees at the second town hall meeting brainstormed other ways in which they could make BIPOC feel more welcome in Undergraduate Student Government. One suggestion: getting rid of the dress code. The interim president, Will Shad, agreed that the USG exhibited elitism and a lack of inclusion:

Schad agreed with these points and said that USG’s elitism is something that was a concern of his as well.

“We see it time and time again that dress codes have no impact on professionalism,” Schad said. “We can still be a professional organization without forcing people to dress up fancy for senate.”

Many attendees said that though it is important to talk about tangible solutions, it is just as important to implement them. They also said that it is not enough to just have diversity; those diverse populations need to feel welcomed.

“I know we talked about the importance of representation but that doesn’t go far enough when we aren’t fostering a sense of belonging within USG and that’s been the issue forever,” Sara Maldonado, a seventh-semester global health major and member of the USG Student Development committee, said. “While we’ve had some BIPOC members in USG they always feel policed in their space or that they’re not welcomed there …”

The Undergraduate Student Government felt it necessary to hold the first town hall meeting over the survey after an Instagram account, “Black at Uconn,” expressed outrage (again courtesy The Daily Campus):

Last week, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) of UConn Storrs hosted two town halls in response to the backlash from the “Different Perspectives” survey promoted on their Instagram account, as well as to address the testimonial submitted to the Instagram account “Black at UConn” about the organization’s unwelcoming environment toward BIPOC members. The town halls, hosted by Joshua Crow and Alexandra Ose, sought to provide a platform for students to share their experiences and find solutions. Crow and Ose were serving as president and vice president of the student body at the time, prior to their resignations.

On July 3, the anonymous submission page Black at UConn posted a testimonial from a 2020 UConn alumnus that detailed an oppressive and discriminatory experience within USG.

“[Y]’all are despicable,” the student said. “It’s interesting how y’all always claim to care about diversity but your Black and Latinx members are often talked over, looked past and not valued.”

The post has amassed over 500 likes and 71 comments from various USG members agreeing with the perspectives shared by the anonymous alumnus. An hour before Black at UConn posted the testimonial, USG released their Different Perspectives survey, which called for marginalized students to anonymously submit their experiences of being discriminated against at UConn.

There were multiple comments under the post from students who said the survey was tone-deaf and that it seemed like the page was plagiarizing the idea from student-run anonymous social media accounts like Black at UConn.

“Why do you need surveys to know racism is wrong, you’re not amplifying anyone’s voice, you’re colonizing them,” one person commented.

The interim president said that elections for a new president and vice president will be held as soon as possible.

Obama DOD Started ‘Indoctrinating Our Troops’ on Racism and ‘Privilege,’ New Docs Show

On Thursday, Judicial Watch obtained 1,483 pages of teaching materials from the Department of Defense (DOD) produced by the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) during President Barack Obama’s tenure. The DOD’s “equal opportunity advisors” use the documents to train service members on diversity topics.

Among other things, the training materials attribute opposition to reparations or affirmative action to a form of racism, claim the idea that “human similarities are more important than differences” is a form of “ethnocentrism,” warn against “sexual orientation privilege” and “religious privilege,” and claim that those who raise religious objections to same-sex marriage are engaging in discrimination.

“These documents show that the Department of Defense has been indoctrinating our troops with anti-American and racially inflammatory ‘training,'” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “We must protect our military servicemembers from being brainwashed by the divisive, anti-American propaganda fueling the leftist insurrectionists who are right now trying to destroy our country.”

In a chart on “Racist Behavior” from an April 2015 training on racism, DEOMI laid out four models of racism. The chart includes a wide range of attitudes that are not racist at all. It defines “traditional” racism as the belief in “biological superiority,” that minorities are “innately inferior,” and that discrimination is “justifiable and desirable.” Yet other forms of “racism” are so subtle to … not be racism at all.

For instance, “symbolic” racism (circa 1965) includes the ideology that “individual effort is key to success,” preaches that minorities “could succeed if [they] worked harder,” and ignores “systematic barriers to advancement.” “Modern” racism (circa 1978) teaches that “people get what they deserve,” that minorities are “undeserving of special efforts to redress past inequities” (like reparations or affirmative action), and that discrimination is “a thing of the past.”

Finally, “aversive” racism (circa 1986-Today) teaches that “all people should have equal political, social, & economic rights,” views minorities as “victims of past injustices,” and supports “non-discriminatory practices,” but according to the chart, this is still racism and results in “avoidance, interracial anxiety, unintentional discrimination.”

Obama DOD racism screenshot

Judicial Watch FOIA document screenshot.

Not only does this document brand attitudes of self-sufficiency and political stances against affirmative action or reparations a form of “racism,” but it also claims that modern leftist approaches to rooting out racism are themselves racist.

In a chapter on “individual diversity,” the January 2015 guide claims that in the process of embracing people from other cultures, people often operate in one of six phases of two main stages (“ethnocentric” and “ethnorelative”). The “ethnocentric” stage includes a “minimization” phase: “Individuals in this level recognize cultural differences, but trivialize them. Individuals at this level believe that human similarities are more important than differences.”

In other words, the attitude that human beings have more that unites us than separates us is just an incomplete and “ethnocentric” approach to cultural and racial diversity.

A document on “Power and Privilege” from April 2015 delineates various forms of privilege, including “Sexual orientation privilege,” which “is associated with the marginalization of non-heterosexual lifestyles and the view that heterosexuality is the normal sexual orientation.” This marginalization includes “the idea that people fall into two distinct and complementary categories (male and female), that sexual and marital relations are normal only when between people of different sexes, and that each sex has certain natural roles in life.”

While the document notes that Obama signed an executive order banning federal contractors from discriminating against employees on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in 2014, it claims that “perceived privileges associated with sexual orientation are evident in today’s society.”

Although it is true that societal acceptance and celebration of same-sex sexual activity varies widely in America today, the notion of attributing the historical-cultural preference for heterosexual marriage and sexual activity to a “privilege” belittles the biological truth that only male and female unions are capable of producing offspring. The “heteronormative” culture is rooted in more than just prejudice.

The “Power and Privilege” document also condemns the religious objections to same-sex marriage. In a section on defenses for discrimination, the document describes “Principium” as a defense “identified by behaviors where one is avoiding exploration based on a religious or personal principle.”

A person using this philosophy might state, “I find it upsetting and disheartening that homosexuals, or anyone for that matter, would have to bear such injustices. However, I do not believe that it is an injustice or discriminatory act to not allow homosexuals couples to cross the threshold of qualifications to be married.”

Ironically, the document that so demonizes religious objections to same-sex marriage also references “religious privilege.” While Christians do enjoy some ease when it comes to getting holidays off, conservative Christians, Jews, and Muslims are finding their traditional sexual morality routinely demonized in the public square.

According to DEOMI’s website, the organization was “Propelled by the civil rights movement of the 1960s.” The DEOMI, a joint-services school, had an operating budget of $19.66 million between 2012-2017, the Judicial Watch documents reveal. According to the DOD comptroller’s office, DEOMI and the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) now jointly make up an entity called the Defense Management Operations Center (DMOC) and that entity has a $13,366,000 budget for fiscal year 2020.

It remains unclear if the DOD continues to use these teaching materials from the Obama administration. However, the July 2020 Navy HR newsletter Sailor Sailor encourages its audience to “take a hard look at how we are all affected by implicit bias and systemic racism.”

Official U.S. government training materials should not endorse a radical view of systemic racism that redefines American society to claim that it is fundamentally systemically racist. This kind of radical Marxist approach threatens to erode the patriotism of America’s armed forces and it misuses Americans’ taxpayer dollars, to boot.

A True Victim of Oppression Rips Up the Black Lives Matter Narrative

Feminist and human rights advocate Ayaan Hirsi Ali issued a vocal condemnation of the Black Lives Matter orthodoxy behind the deadly George Floyd riots and the burgeoning cancel culture. A victim of forced marriage and female genital mutilation in her youth, Hirsi Ali has vocally opposed radical Islam and the terrorism it inspires. She accused the cancel culture radicals of becoming “censorship terrorists,” a threat to America’s “open society.”

On Monday, Ali shared an op-ed from Gerard Baker, editor-at-large of The Wall Street Journal. “Trump’s detractors warned there would be an all-out assault on freedom of speech. Then they launched one, writes [Baker],” she tweeted.

On Tuesday, she shared Bari Weiss’s powerful resignation letter, which exposed the “new McCarthyism” at The New York Times. Weiss’s fellow staff at the Times accused her — a Jew — of being a Nazi for opposing the left’s stifling orthodoxy.

“The New York Times was once a great paper. Not anymore. It is now held hostage by a small group of censorship terrorists. Yesterday they hounded out James Bennet and today it is Bari Weiss who must leave. Who is next?” Hirsi Ali tweeted.

Is Bari Weiss the New York Times’ James Damore? Insider Spills the Beans on Stifling Cancel Culture

On Wednesday, Hirsi Ali went on Fox News to discuss the threat to Western Civilization.

“I think we are transitioning from being open societies to becoming closed societies. What defines an open society? It’s freedom. What defines a closed society? It’s fear,” she said. “It looks like the New York Times newsroom and opinion pages are adopting fear.”

Hirsi Ali also condemned the “lack of leadership.” Leaders refuse to punish “all the bullying and the terrorizing that goes on.”

“The people who are supposed to discipline what I call the censorship terrorists, they’re not doing their jobs,” she explained. “This is alarming, this is disturbing. We have to fear for our open society. It’s not just that the leadership is being silent and doing nothing. No, they’re actively appeasing the mobs.”

Yet Hirsi Ali, a black woman originally from Somalia, condemned the left’s new orthodoxy on race as “pure fraud.” She warned white people against the arguments of Robin DiAngelo, the author of the book White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism. DiAngelo argues that white people are reluctant to talk about racism because they are secretly and unintentionally racist. In other words, unconscious racism is at the heart of the reluctance to talk about racism.

“What Bernie Madoff was to the financial sector, Robin DiAngelo is to the intellectual sector. This is pure fraud. To my fellow white citizens: please don’t be conned,” Hirsi Ali tweeted.

Hirsi Ali condemned this argument not just because she thinks it is false but because she tied it to the threat of “censorship terrorists” who aim to use “fear” to shut down America’s open society. This isn’t just about racism — it’s about free speech, free thought, and western civilization itself.

In a recent interview with the Hoover Institution, Hirsi Ali noted that “the iconoclasm and this impulse to destroy has been with us for a while.” Yet after the horrific police killing of George Floyd, “this mishmash of people who call themselves Black Lives Matter, they have found the hook.” They aim to undermine “the idea of America, by constantly harping on the things we did wrong, which we all admit, the slavery, the segregation.” While Americans have had serious moral failings, that does not justify trashing the American experiment.

“It’s not about lifting up black people, it’s not about ending racism for them,” Hirsi Ali warned. “It’s about power.”

Media Deliberately Lies About Kayleigh McEnany’s ‘Science’ Quote on Reopening Schools

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany reiterated President Donald Trump’s call to reopen schools in the fall, pointing out that it’s “very damaging to our children” to be stuck at home.

In response to a question about schools deciding to go online-only, McEneny was asked what Trump has to say to parents who don’t know what to do with their kids.

Here was McEnany’s response:

You know, the president has said unmistakably that he wants schools to open. And I was just in the Oval talking to him about that. And when he says open, he means open in full — kids being able to attend each and every day at their school.

The science should not stand in the way of this. And as Dr. Scott Atlas said — I thought this was a good quote — “Of course, we can [do it]. Everyone else in the…Western world, our peer nations are doing it. We are the outlier here.”

The science is very clear on this, that — you know, for instance, you look at the JAMA Pediatrics study of 46 pediatric hospitals in North America that said the risk of critical illness from COVID is far less for children than that of seasonal flu.

The science is on our side here, and we encourage for localities and states to just simply follow the science, open our schools. It’s very damaging to our children: There is a lack of reporting of abuse; there’s mental depressions that are not addressed; suicidal ideations that are not addressed when students are not in school. Our schools are extremely important, they’re essential, and they must reopen.

So what did the media do with this statement? Naturally, figures like Jim Acosta cherrypicked a quote, leaving out important context to make it appear that McEnany was making the opposite point she had actually made.

Many other outlets highlighted the sentence, “The science should not stand in the way of this,” while deliberately ignoring the rest of the quote, in which McEnany points out that the science supports reopening schools. NBC News, The New York Times, The Guardian, PBS, the Daily Beast, The Washington Post, and many others deliberately took her out of context in their headlines. There is no doubt that McEnany never meant to say or to imply that schools should reopen despite science saying it isn’t safe. She specifically made the point, very clearly, that science is on the side of reopening schools. Other countries have done it successfully. Studies show that kids are not at significant risk. Every “journalist” that reported on her statement knew this but deliberately tried to create the false impression Trump just wants to put kids and teachers at risk.

This is what the media does. They lie. If they really object to being called the “enemy of the people” they’d report fairly and accurately.

Did Trump Shame Portland’s Mayor Into Putting Down the Autonomous Zone? Sure Looks That Way…

On Tuesday night, antifa and Black Lives Matter rioters and anarchists attempted to seize property in Portland in the same way agitators seized property in Seattle, setting up the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) Occupied Protest (CHOP). As PJ Media’s Jeff Reynolds reported, the Portland anarchists called the area the Chinook Land Autonomous Territory (CLAT), since the land was allegedly stolen from Native Americans. While CHAZ/CHOP endured for weeks, CLAT barely lasted 36 hours. Why?

At first, it seems the prospect for an “autonomous zone” might be rosier in Portland than it was in Seattle. After all, antifa rioters have terrorized the streets of Portland with relative impunity for years. As Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf put it, “The city of Portland has been under siege for 47 straight days by a violent mob while local political leaders refuse to restore order to protect their city. Each night, lawless anarchists destroy and desecrate property, including the federal courthouse, and attack the brave law enforcement officers protecting it.”

Antifa rioters broke windows, covered the Justice Center courthouse with profane graffiti, burned an elk statue, shot off fireworks and incendiary devices at the federal courthouse, and … set up an “autonomous zone.” Some rioters have carried firearms, including the driver of a vehicle who attempted to hit a police officer with his car.

Yet in the wee hours of Thursday morning, police cleared out Chapman Square Park and Lownsdale Square Park, where antifa had set up the CLAT. Police reported closing down the parks at 5:10 a.m., arresting nine individuals for trespass and disorderly conduct. “People were provided ten minutes to leave the park. At about 5:10 a.m. Portland Police walked through the parks to be sure everyone received the message the parks were closed and move people out of the parks to the north.”

Is Seattle Reliving the Paris Commune?

Police reported that “the parks will remain closed until needed repairs are made and the parks are ready to reopen for all to enjoy. The Police Bureau will assist other City bureaus to facilitate park closure and repair to lawns, bathrooms, benches and public art.”

Police also released pictures of the devastation the antifa rioters caused.

Portland Police were right to clear out the “autonomous zone.” When anarchists seize public property, they deprive taxpayers of their rightful access to it. Following the weeks of antifa occupation in Seattle, 16 residents and businesses sued the City of Seattle, alleging that the city failed to protect their rights by not taking action to restore law and order in the CHOP area.

But Portland’s mayor didn’t seem the type…

Yet Mayor Ted Wheeler (D-Portland) did not seem the type to put down a lawless occupation. When President Donald Trump sent federal troops to help restore order in Portland, Wheeler accused him of having “escalated” the violence.

“The President did not quell it, he escalated it. His heavy-handed tactics led to a serious injury and enflamed an already tense situation,” the mayor tweeted.

Justice Is Coming: Businesses Sue Seattle for Enabling CHOP Antifastan’s Reign of Terror

On Tuesday, as antifa rioters were setting up their “autonomous zone,” Wolf called Wheeler, expressing his “concern about ongoing violence” and asking how the Department of Homeland Security can help.

Wheeler effectively spat in his face. “I told the Acting Secretary that my biggest immediate concern is the violence federal officers brought to our streets in recent days, and the life-threatening tactics his agents use. We do not need or want their help,” the mayor shot back. “The best thing they can do is stay inside their building, or leave Portland altogether. Our goal is to end these violent demonstrations quickly and safely. And in the meantime, I asked him to clean up the graffiti on local federal facilities.”

Wolf flew into Portland on Thursday, and Wheeler acknowledged his presence in town. The mayor insisted that even if he were invited to meet with Wolf, he would not. “We’re aware that they’re here. We wish they weren’t. We haven’t been invited to meet with them, and if we were, we would decline.”

Given the weeks of non-stop violence in Portland, this attitude is disgusting. Rather than welcoming federal help in putting down a violent mob, Wheeler is trying to spit in President Donald Trump’s face.

Seattle Mayor Admits CHOP Antifastan Caused Crime Wave, ‘Alarming’ Spike in COVID Cases

This seems reminiscent of how Gov. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) and Mayor Jenny Durkan (D-Seattle) responded to Trump’s demands that they restore order immediately in CHAZ. Inslee and Durkan insisted that it would be “illegal and unconstitutional” to shut down a lawless rebellion. Durkan even insisted CHAZ could be “the summer of love.” In late June, two deadly shootings on two subsequent weekends took the lives of a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both of them black.

Trump forced Durkan’s hand. Did he force Wheeler’s, too?

When Seattle police finally cleared out the lawless antifa occupation, it seemed that the shootings had forced Durkan’s hand. Then Trump revealed that he had pressured Seattle to act.

Last week, Sean Hannity asked the president whether “one of the reasons that the Seattle mayor finally acted is that they were given notice that if they didn’t act that you were going to. Is there any truth to that?”

“A hundred percent,” Trump replied. “We were going in, we were going in very soon, we let them know that. And they, all of a sudden, they didn’t want that. So they went in before we got there.”

“But we were going in very shortly, very soon, and we would have taken the CHOP, they call it, CHOP. We would have taken it back very easily,” the president added. “But they went in and, frankly, the people just gave up, they were tired, they had it for a very long period of time.”

It seems that the DHS and Chad Wolf pressured Wheeler to act in the same fashion. Despite the mayor’s loud protestations, federal troops were coming to Portland. The 47 days of violence had to come to an end. Perhaps Wheeler thought that he would be in a better political position if he cleared out the CLAT himself. It would have been extremely embarrassing if DHS had to clear it out for him.

Antifa rioters are not giving up on Portland. They have already attempted to swarm the park to resurrect the CLAT, but the police aren’t having it. There will be no autonomous zones while Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf is in town.

Mary Trump Is the MSM’s New ‘Avenatti’

Here we go again.

Remember two weeks ago when John Bolton’s memoirs were finally going to be the thing that brought down President Trump? Was it even two weeks ago? Three tops.

For a few weeks, John Bolton was everywhere. Radio. Television. Social media. Podcasts. I’m pretty sure I saw him standing outside my bedroom window one night. The little scamp was unavoidable.

Move over, Ambassador B, somebody named Mary Trump has pushed you aside.

Apparently a niece of President Trump’s, Mary has written a scathing family tell-all that the frothing anti-Trump types assure us will be THE THING THAT BRINGS HIM DOWN.

She seems super stable. Not only does she have uncle issues, she apparently has major granddaddy issues as well. I’ve done the research on all of this but I won’t be linking to any of it because it would give traffic and publicity to the kinds of people I wouldn’t even waste time giving the finger to.

It takes a special kind of awful person to decide that the best way to make a buck and a name for herself is to crap all over her family. The book is selling very well so, kudos to her, she got top dollar for her soul.

I don’t know much about Mary Trump. That’s kind of the point here. No one does. I can tell you that as I write this she is the most popular person among some of the worst people in America: the mainstream media.

They’ve found their new “Avenatti,” which is the word I am now going to use for whichever insane Trump-hater that the MSM is leg-humping on any given week.

The MSM spent over a year getting lathered over Michael Avenatti, only to find out that he was sleazier than the stripper client who made him famous. They never for a moment considered checking out what kind of person he might be. He was badmouthing President Trump, so he was good enough for them.

There was a point when Avenatti was on MSNBC and CNN so frequently it seemed as if they had cloned him. The paste-eating morons in the MSM even spent several months buzzing about Avenatti as a potential Democratic presidential candidate. It was like watching a collective head injury play out in real-time.

Now we’re being treated to a no-name whose real source of disgruntlement probably comes from the fact that her cousin Ivanka has always been prettier than she is.

Her book will no doubt continue to do well. There’s a lot of money in the Trump-hating grifter world right now, just ask the Lincoln Project guys. They’re probably getting together each night to sit naked in a drum circle and read excerpts from Mary Trump’s book while George Conway powders his fat folds.

Like every other Avenatti the MSM has had, Mary Trump will also disappear almost overnight. Who knows? We may find out some sordid details about her. Probably not. One thing is for certain, though: if her uncle wins in November even the people in love with her right now will never, ever remember her name again.

Here’s How Much Trump’s Deregulation Saved Your Family This Year

On Thursday, President Donald Trump gave the American people an update on his historic effort to slice through the red tape strangling the economy behind the scenes. The president had promised to slash two regulations for every new regulation issued, but in his first three years, he has far exceeded that ambitious promise. His deregulation saves the average American family thousands of dollars per year.

“Before I came into office, American workers were smothered by a merciless avalanche of wasteful and expensive and intrusive federal regulation. These oppressive, burdensome mandates were a stealth tax on our people — slashing take-home pay, suppressing innovation, surging the cost of goods, and shipping millions of American jobs overseas — millions and millions and millions. It never ended,” Trump announced on Thursday.

“We launched the most dramatic regulatory relief campaign in American history,” the president noted. “At the heart of this effort was a revolutionary promise: For every one new regulation issued, we pledged that two federal regulations would be permanently removed. We not only met that ambitious goal — which, at the time, people said was impossible — we vastly exceeded it. For every one new regulation added, nearly eight federal regulations have been terminated.”

While the Obama administration added more than 16,000 pages of job-killing regulations to the Federal Register in 8 years, Trump’s administration has removed nearly 25,000 pages of regulations in just over three years.

“The prior administration piled up more than 600 major new regulations — a cruel and punishing regulatory burden that cost the average American an additional $2,300 per year. Think of that: The average American, $2,300, regulation — hitting low-income Americans, by far, the hardest. These regulations also inflicted a steep economic toll on African American communities,” Trump noted.

The Trump administration’s “historic regulatory relief is providing the average American household an extra $3,100 every single year.”

Curbing back regulation also helps expand customer choices, making life concretely better for Americans. The president gave some eye-opening examples.

“We’re bringing back consumer choice in home appliances so that you can buy washers and dryers, showerheads, and faucets. So showerheads — you take a shower, the water doesn’t come out. You want to wash your hands, the water doesn’t come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer? Because my hair — I don’t know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect,” Trump joked.

The president drew a loud round of applause when he announced, “And old-fashioned incandescent lightbulbs — I brought them back. I brought them back.”

“We’re reclaiming America’s proud heritage as a nation of builders,” Trump declared. “We stopped the egregious abuse of the Clean Water Act, which extreme activists have used to shut down construction projects all across our country. When I signed that legislation, I had many farmers and construction people standing behind me — people that haven’t cried since they were a baby. Some of them never even when they were a baby, and they were crying. Many people were cry — we gave them back their life.”

The president also announced that his administration completed “a sweeping overhaul of America’s badly broken infrastructure approval process. It was totally out of control. Instead of taking up to 20 years to approve a major project, we’re cutting the federal permitting timeline — it’s already been done — to a maximum of two years or less; in some cases, even less than one year.”

Trump also touted his administration’s 740 actions to suspend regulations that would have slowed America’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. “This includes lifting restrictions on manufacturers so that our great autoworkers could produce more than 100,000 ventilators. So we’ve done over 100,000 in 100 days. Think of that. And we didn’t have ventilators. We weren’t set up for ventilators. We became a country that’s making a lot of them, helping so many others — countries that are never going to be in a position to make them. They’re complex, they’re expensive, they’re big. Very, very, very tough to do. And we’ve saved a lot of lives.”

The president hailed this production of health equipment as “probably the greatest source of manufacturing, the greatest achievements since World War II.”

Trump also noted that Vice President Mike Pence “is also working closely with state, local, and tribal leaders to streamline occupational licensing.” He said more than 30 states have taken steps to reduce these barriers to employment.

“The American people know best how to run their own lives,” Trump confidently declared. “They don’t need Washington bureaucrats controlling their every move and micromanaging their every decision. With each regulation we cut, we’re not only returning the money and the power to our citizens, we are draining the Washington swamp, and they’re not happy about it — I can tell you that. I think you know that.” The president noted that the swamp runs deep, “deeper than I thought.”

A great deal of work still remains. While the Trump administration’s deregulation efforts are saving the average American family roughly $3,100 per year, a Competitive Enterprise Institute from May 2017 found that if the cost of federal regulations flowed down to U.S. households, the average American family would pay $14,809 in a hidden regulatory tax — on top of income taxes, state taxes, and Social Security.

Trump’s deregulation is indeed historic, but he is far from done. The president needs another four years to make an even larger dent.

Most Trump Supporters Can’t Wait to Vote for Him

Commentators came out of the woodwork to ridicule President Donald Trump for allegedly turning his July 14 press conference into a campaign rally (and for being unpresidential). So what if he did?

They objected that he veered into other topics when he was supposed to be talking about China and Hong Kong. Horrors!

The press corps, of all people, has no standing to complain about topic drift at presidential press conferences when it routinely uses such events to ask questions unrelated to the announced topic.

Presidents always frame their policy positions in the most favorable political light, especially this close to an election. Don’t even think about saying Trump is unique on this. Of course, Trump is going to argue that his actions warrant his reelection, and it’s absurd to claim that’s unusually political as if it’s possible to separate policy from politics.

But the liberal media’s hypocrisy is hardly noteworthy anymore. We’d be fools to expect fairness from them.

What is notable, though, is that some establishment conservative strategists and analysts also joined in, lamenting that Trump shot himself in the foot by going off script and meandering all over the board. They essentially said, “He had an opportunity to be presidential on this weighty foreign policy issue, but he descended into campaign-rally mode and blew it.”

They cringe that Trump is unorthodox, unpolished, and unafraid to get down in the dirt with his opponents, especially from the lofty, hallowed presidential podium. They also don’t get Trump supporters, who are not holding their noses to vote for him. They can’t wait.

A True Victim of Oppression Rips Up the Black Lives Matter Narrative

These establishment handwringers have shown themselves ill-equipped to analyze Trump or his supporters because they can’t adapt their expertise and experience to Trump, who broke the mold and is unlike any political figure they’ve ever encountered. They are handicapped by their willful blindness to the unprecedented fascism of today’s political left.

Newsflash: The overwhelming majority of Trump supporters don’t give a rip about his so-called presidentiality. They don’t care about the proverbial crease in his pants or many other characteristics the pseudo-sophisticated beltway elite cherish. They don’t want someone like Mitt Romney, who let Barack Obama walk all over him in a presidential debate instead of fighting for what he purported to believe in.

Trump supporters don’t want Trump to moderate his positions in the hopes that the committed radicals will morph into moderates and the crisis will pass. It won’t, because leftist agitators won’t let it. Trump supporters realize we’re in a war for the survival of the country — a war we didn’t start and one we’ll lose if we don’t fight back with every fiber of our being. We want him to counter the violent, revolutionary left at every turn.

Shame on us if we ignore or downplay the anarchy and violence in the streets; the destruction of monuments; the assault on and defunding of police; the sanitization of radical groups as humanitarian rather than Marxist organizations; the cultural terrorism against ideological diversity; and the deliberate fanning of racial discord.

Sadly, there’s no rational basis for clinging to the hope that the Neville Chamberlains of the right are going to wake up to the existential struggle we’re in and get on board. So, at the very least, we mustn’t let them discourage those who understand the struggle.

Purveyors of conventional political wisdom miss the reality on the ground. They fail to grasp how much Trump supporters appreciate that he counters the liberal media narrative, that he’s calling out the anti-Americanism of the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezes and the insane radicalism of their energy-and-economy-destroying green agenda.

Trump supporters don’t believe he’s inhumane for refusing to allow America to be paralyzed by fear, and for insisting that we reopen the economy and get our kids back to school. They deny that he’s racially insensitive because he believes we should protect our borders and shouldn’t kneel for the national anthem.

They reject the false choices foisted on them by a media dedicated to extinguishing the Trump presidency and fundamentally transforming America. They resent being called racist because they celebrate our founding and our Constitution. They will not be bullied into submission by those cynically using the race card as a Trojan horse for socialism and leftist authoritarianism.

Trump supporters understand that the failing Joe Biden, whether or not he’s a radical himself, will be putty in the hands of extremists and that, if Trump loses this election, their children’s chances of living in freedom drastically diminish.

They see what these radicals have done when their political party of choice is out of power, and they shudder at what they would do if in power.

So you “conservative” strategists longing for the surrender of our principles for the sake of Oxford eloquence and phony politeness in the midst of an all-but-hot civil war will just have to remain frustrated, because if you don’t understand what’s at stake by now, you never will. You just aren’t wired to get it.

We Trump supporters understand that we may lose the election and the country, but we won’t do it without fighting or because we fear being falsely depicted as bigots more than we fear losing the nation.

No, Trump Isn’t Crazy. Joe Biden Poses a Threat to the Suburbs. Here’s How.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump warned that “Joe Biden and his bosses from the radical left” aim to “totally destroy the beautiful suburbs.” This led many liberals to scratch their heads, thinking the president was insane. Right on cue, some claimed that Trump was racist. Yet the president is correct: Joe Biden poses a threat to the suburbs, and to the very concept of local autonomy over how communities are run.

When Trump made the comment at the White House on Wednesday, leftists lost it.

“Claiming anybody wants to abolish the suburbs is so insane that I think it makes Trump look even more pathetic,” Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, tweeted.

“I can’t believe the Trump campaign is so desperate they are trying to paint Joe Biden as a suburb abolishing anarchist,” anti-gun activist David Hogg tweeted.

Stand-up comedian Patton Oswalt suggested Trump’s claim about the suburbs proved that he was senile.

Others started suggesting that Trump’s warning was — get this — racist. “Trump, again speaking in barely veiled racial code, again ridiculously accuses Democrats of trying to ‘abolish our beautiful and successful suburbs.’ He says, ‘Your home will go down in value and crime rates will rapidly rise,'” CNN “fact-checker” Daniel Dale tweeted.

Dale added that Trump was “denouncing an Obama-era rule meant to combat racial segregation in housing.”

In 2015, former President Barack Obama’s administration issues the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rule, which expanded on the 1968 Fair Housing Act, which outlawed restrictions on selling or renting homes to people based on race. Preventing racial discrimination is a noble goal, but the Obama-era rule would undermine federalism and communities’ control over their own land.

National Review‘s Stanley Kurtz has been ringing the alarm bell on this issue — he even wrote a book about it.

I’ve been studying Joe Biden’s housing plans, and what I’ve seen is both surprising and frightening. I expected that a President Biden would enforce the Obama administration’s radical AFFH (Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing) regulation to the hilt. That is exactly what Biden promises to do. By itself, that would be more than enough to end America’s suburbs as we’ve known them, as I’ve explained repeatedly here at NRO.

What surprises me is that Biden has actually promised to go much further than AFFH. Biden has embraced Cory Booker’s strategy for ending single-family zoning in the suburbs and creating what you might call “little downtowns” in the suburbs. Combine the Obama-Biden administration’s radical AFFH regulation with Booker’s new strategy, and I don’t see how the suburbs can retain their ability to govern themselves. It will mean the end of local control, the end of a style of living that many people prefer to the city, and therefore the end of meaningful choice in how Americans can live. Shouldn’t voters know that this is what’s at stake in the election?

According to Kurtz, AFFH integrates the suburbs with urban communities through a quota system to push urban residents into the suburbs; by regulating development, restricting automobile use, and limiting highway growth, effectively forcing suburbanites back to the city; and by redistributing tax revenue to poorer cities in the greater metropolitan area.

AFFH used HUD grants to incentivize the program, but local communities had the freedom to reject the grants and retain local control over zoning. Biden, however, aims to implement Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-N.J.) plan to withhold federal transportation grants, which communities use to repair highways. This would give the regulation more teeth.

Local control is important in a federalist system like the United States. Trump’s decision to oppose AFFH does not mean he supports segregation or that his warnings about the AFFH threat to the suburbs are secretly racist.

Trump is not going insane, but sometimes it really seems Joe Biden is. Just how far left does this ostensible “moderate” want to go?

Locking America Down Again Is Exactly What China Wants Because It Will Ruin Us

The governors of Texas and California, the nation’s two most populous states, recently reimposed coronavirus lockdowns despite falling death rates and health-care capacity far beyond hospitalization rates. Numerous other governors have delayed reopenings or reversed them in similar situations.

Lockdowns are not necessary to prevent coronavirus deaths, since the current capacity for treating cases is far above what is needed and people are going to get this disease until there’s a cure. Further, lockdowns accelerate systemic weaknesses such as our national debt, poor education, large numbers of working-age men who do not work, failure to pay for decades of overspending at both the national and state levels, tendency to bail out corrupt institutions such as schools, big business, and hospitals, and bloated health care system.

The Chinese Communist Party knows of all this. That is why it has expertly manipulated American corporate media’s anti-American biases to undermine their biggest competitor for control of the world.

Lockdowns of Western nations, and chiefly of the United States, are China’s only hope for achieving this long-term plan in its coronavirus-weakened state. Thus, continuing to play into this mass-murdering regime’s hands through cuckolded American leadership will have far more deadly consequences than coronavirus. This is why the lockdowns need to end now, and never come back again.

Keeping a Knee on Our Economy Will Kill Our Country

A July 13 New York Times article says the re-shutdowns are killing the willpower of small business owners to keep their doors open, even after Congress threw $660 billion in deficit spending at them.

“We did everything we were supposed to do,” Texas karaoke club owner Mick Larkin told the Times. “When [Gov. Rick Abbott] shut us down again, and after I put out all that money to meet their rules, I just said, ‘I can’t keep doing this.’”

Estimates say between 66,000 and 110,000 small businesses may already have closed for good during the coronavirus panic.

“Small businesses account for 44 percent of all U.S. economic activity, according to the S.B.A., and closures on such an immense scale could devastate the country’s economic growth,” the Times observes. “…Many small businesses are also finding it onerous keep up with constantly changing local guidelines, while others are deciding that no matter what their local officials say, it just is not safe to keep going.”

There is a hard limit to how much fake economic activity current and future taxpayers can float. We had already reached it before coronavirus hit. A bailout economy will crash irrevocably at some point. No matter how much Congress thinks they can suspend the laws of nature, never-ending economic inflation through accelerating claims on future American earners’ incomes is utterly unsustainable.

Americans cannot afford a Potemkin economy. The first step toward getting to a real economy is to end lockdowns and never impose them again.

We Have No More Equity to Mortgage Our Kids’ Futures

Keeping schools shut down, or only partially opening them, also suffocates our economy by making it difficult for two-income families and single parents to support themselves. It is simply not possible to work full-time and teach children full-time, which is what online schooling requires of working parents.

School shutdowns also hobble American society long-term, as they and online schooling both significantly reduce how much children learn, especially in math. Math competence strongly predicts a nation’s economic future, to the point that one estimate finds if U.S. kids just learned as much math as Canadian kids do, our nation would increase its gross domestic product by $77 trillion over the next 80 years.

It’s therefore quite reasonable to assume that setting kids back in math by a year or two, as continued coronavirus schooling will do (it’s already set them back in math almost a year), will short our economy tens of trillions of dollars — right at the time trillions in unfunded entitlements for Baby Boomers will come due. We simply can’t afford that, and China knows it.

Besides harming our country, shutdowns harm children. There is next to zero risk to children’s health of going back to school, as evidence from myriad first-world countries show. There is a massive risk to kids’ futures of depriving them of a good education. One estimate found keeping U.S. kids’ math knowledge to pre-pandemic levels instead of raising it to Canada’s would deprive them of an estimated 20 percent in additional income for every year of their lives that they work.

Doing what China wants in continued lockdowns will not just hamstring American kids financially, it will bequeath them a far more dangerous world in which an aggressive, mass-murdering regime that deliberately sent a deadly virus abroad grows in power as their nation’s ability to deflect that power decays. In 20 years, America’s kids will not be impressed that we spared grownups some unsubstantiated unease in return for condemning the next generation to a much higher likelihood of poverty, a bankrupted social safety net, and a homeland at the mercy of a bloodthirsty global power.

Media Push U.S. Politicians to Fulfill Communist Plans

In urging lockdowns, therefore, U.S. media has amplified and helped implement Communist goals. The Chinese Communist Party endorsed, promulgated, and lobbied for strict lockdowns with the goal of kneecapping foreign competitors, including the United States. As Michael P. Senger pointed out on Twitter based on a June New York Times article, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) “launched a massive social media campaign in Italy to advertise its coronavirus lockdown measures in early March.”

Democrats spent three years spinning a presidential impeachment out of a few Facebook memes from Russian trolls and bots in 2016. This NYT article and a long ProPublica report provide evidence that the CCP has been using a far bigger propaganda campaign to destroy the United States through economic suicide and destruction of social cohesion. And it’s working.

It is no exaggeration to say that the world’s future depends on the United States acting strategically to counter Chinese propaganda and aims rather than strangling ourselves on lies. Our economy and military sustain the world. China is the number one beneficiary if we choke, and it has been wanting to challenge the United States for dominant global power for decades. They needed another generation or two to be able to get there.

The CCP strategy for achieving that has been promising its citizens political competence and economic advancement in exchange for severe repression that allows for directing the nation’s entire economy into soft and hard global power. Coronavirus strikes at the heart of both these strategies. That’s the CCP’s main leverage over the Chinese (besides terrorizing people). So the only way Xi Jinping staves off losing his head over mismanaging this outbreak is by bringing the world down with him.

The CCP is fighting for its life and its 100-year plan to get us to stay locked down. Keeping freedom alive for the world requires that they don’t win. Key to fighting back is following Sweden and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s successful coronavirus management strategies: End government lockdowns, and allow American citizens to act on their own judgments about coronavirus risks.
